Schools table tennis underway

PRESS RELEASE - The 2014 Inter Secondary Table Tennis Tournament is here. An expected 57 teams are expected to compete in both the male and female division island wide. 16 male and 16 female teams will be qualifying for the main stage which will be held at the Bonsejour Indoor facility in December.

Monday marked the beginning of the five days of preliminary matches in the Boys team event in which only the group winner from each of the 16 groups will advance.

Day one saw groups 3 and 12 in action at the Castries Table Tennis Centre. The first match in group 3 saw St.Mary’s (D) team winning over the Vide Boutielle Secondary School (A) team 3-1.

Kyle Castello from St.Mary’s was the outstanding performer. The second match in group 3 saw the Vide Boutielle Secondary School (A) team winning a tightly contested match against Sir Ira Simmons Secondary School(A) 3-2 .

Although both Joshua Gabriel and Shayid Clauzel from SISSS performed well Rakim Joseph from VBSS proved to be a difficult matchup as he gave it his all to secure his school’s victory. The third match witnessed the Sonce again winning 3-1 over SISSS A.

Group 12 saw Castries Comprehensive Secondary School (B) team cruising to victory over both SDA Academy (A) team and Sir Ira Simmons Secondary School (B) in straight sets 3-0. Both Craig Antoine and Joshua Boland from CCSS played excellent table tennis. SDA (A) team won 3-0 over SISSS (B) team.

Chaz Cepal was the outstanding player for SDA, Eric Theodore played well for Sir Ira. St Mary’s D team and the Castries Comprehensive Secondary School B team both advanced to the next round.
